How To Check Power Steering Fluid Level?

High-quality power steering oil Funnel
Latex gloves Safety goggles
Coveralls Clean towels to wipe any stains

Step 1: First, start the ignition and let it run until the temperature gauge reaches its standard operating level.

Step 2: Now, with the engine running at an idle speed, turn the steering wheel all the way to one side or full lock and then reverse it all the turn to the other side. Do the step a few times to smooth out its hinges.

Step 3: After locking and unlocking the power steering a few times, now it’s time to turn off the engine. After turning it off, go to the front of the car, open the hood, look under it and locate the power steering reservoir. Use your vehicle owner’s manual to know its exact location. It will either come in black, yellow cap or a white one.

Step 4: Before opening the cap of the reservoir, clean it up with a cloth or a rag to avoid getting the dirt in.

Step 5: Now, this step differs depending on the make and model of your vehicle. In most vehicles, the power steering level is clearly visible from the exterior of the reservoir, while on others you need to remove a dipstick to check the level.

Step 6: The power steering reservoir will be marked with “MAX” and “MIN” indicators. If the fluid level is below the “MIN” line, slowly start filling the reservoir with the appropriate fluid, but stop just below the “MAX” line.

Step 7: Replace the cap or dipstick (if needed) and make sure it is sealed right.
